4 Morning Rituals To Help You Shape Your Day!

Nov 8, 2019 | Energy, Nutrition, Weight Management, Wellness

As the warmer months are now upon us many people are thinking about how they can keep their body healthy, or create new healthy habits so they can feel their best. When wanting to improve your health one of the best place to start is with your morning routine. How you start your day can truly set you up and shape how you feel throughout the day. When you start your day on the right foot you’re more likely to want to make better choices throughout the day.

Here are 4 morning rituals you can add into your life to help shape your day.

#1 hydrate – make this non-negotiable!! When we wake up we wake up dehydrated, because of this it’s vital we hydrated our bodies upon waking. Ideally with a big glass of warm water, and for extra health boosting benefits add some fresh lemon juice, or a dash of raw apple cider vinegar.

#2 Move your body! Exercise is a fantastic way to wake you up and kick start your day. Some studies have shown exercising in the morning can help you to be more productive throughout the day, it also makes you feel good as it gives you a boost of endorphins, this helps to boost your mood. Exercising also helps increase your bodies abilities to respond to insulin, which may help promote fat loss.

#3 Get mindful. My personal favourite is to meditate upon waking for 15 minutes, I do this while listening to a guided meditation. If meditation isn’t your thing you could try deep belly breathing for 5-10 minutes, journaling or simply write down 3-5 things you are grateful for. The key is to find something that works for you and suits your morning routine. I personally set my alarm 15 minutes earlier than normal to ensure I fit this into my morning routine, I highly recommend trying it for yourself! It may take some time to get used too. There are numerous studies to show that meditation helps with mental health and productivity. I really love the way it calms my mind, I used to meditate before bed for many years but since changing to the morning I do believe it has truly help transform my mind even further, along with helping to shape my day.

#4 Have a protein rich breakfast. Every week in clinic I telling my clients to eat more protein. Having a high protein breakfast is essential if you want to have stable energy levels throughout the day and less cravings in the afternoon as protein helps to regulate appetite by switching off some of our hunger hormones. The best protein options to include in your breakfast are eggs, salmon or a protein powder. Other protein options which aren’t as high in protein are nuts, seeds, legumes, organic tofu, it’s best to combine two of these protein options together to ensure you’re getting enough protein to help support stable energy levels and good health.
