I’m a sucker when it comes to superfood powders. I am all about food first in relation to getting all your nutritional needs from real whole foods, but I’ve gotta say I do love to boost my smoothies and home made sweet treats with extra goodness. I have a few staples which I use on regular basis so thought I’d share them with you.
1. Raw Cacao Powder
Hands down raw cacao powder might possibly be my number one superfood powder. I’m a chocolate lover, even though I’m a nutritionist and health enthusiast we’ve gotta have our guilty pleasures and chocolate is mine! However, with Natava Superfoods Raw Organic Cacao Powder you are actually boosting your body with nutrition rather than depleting it. Natava Superfoods Raw Cacao Powder is collected from the rain forest regions of Ecuador, it’s from a special heirloom variety which is considered by many to be the highest quality cacao. Organic raw cacao powder is extremely high in antioxidants, it boosts your energy and gives you a blissful feeling from its high levels of serotonin (the happy hormone) and is a rich source of magnesium and iron. I add it to smoothies, chocolate oats, homemade raw chocolate and many more raw homemade sweet treats.
2. Protein Powder
If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know I add Nuzest protein powders to pretty much all my smoothies or breakfast meals, and is my #1 post work drink. I’ve been using this protein for years. It's 100% natural vegetable pea protein which is alkalizing and is free from gluten, dairy, soy and GMO’s. It’s vital we consume adequate protein in our diet to help with weight management, help your body recover faster, stabilize blood sugar levels, boost our immune system and to give us longer lasting energy.
If you’re after an energy boost, then give matcha a try. I’m not a huge coffee fan, instead when I need an extra energy kick I’ll make a matcha latte, smoothie or add it into energy balls, which I enjoy in the afternoon. Recently I’ve been using Radiance Superfoods Matcha Powder. Matcha is very high in antioxidants, amino acids, and chlorophyll. It supports optimal energy production, but also contains theanine which enhances calm and focus.
Spirulina is seriously one of the most amazing superfoods (yes I know, I’m saying this about all of my top superfood powders) but no joke spirulina is a nutritional powerhouse. I’ve been incorporating spirulina into my diet for years. Recently I’ve been obsessed with Natava Superfoods Organic Spirulina Powder which is 100% certified organic. Not only is spirulina one of the highest sources of protein per 100grams but is an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and carotenoids. It’s a good source of iron so if you’re vegetarian and low in iron consider supplementing with this daily. It also contains chlorophyll which can assist with detoxification. It’s super nutrient dense and really gives your body what it needs to function well and maintain excellent levels of health and energy.
5) Maca Powder
Maca became my new best friend last year when I was struggling with a hormonal imbalance. Maca is a root native to Peru, it has a unique way in which it improves the function of the endocrine system, allowing your hormonal system to function at its best. I’ve been loving Natava Superfoods Raw Organic Maca Powder which is also certified organic. Maca powder is said to increase stamina, endurance and overall energy. Along with all of that this amazing powder is nutrient rich, it has a high vitamin C and zinc content, as well as containing other nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, fatty acids and some B vitamins which help to nourish the nervous system. I love adding 1 tsp into my morning porridge or smoothie.
6) Greens Powder
Nuzest Good Green Stuff has been a fav of mine for years, it’s the ultimate superfood containing 75+ ingredients. This powder is more than multi and more than just greens, it’s actually a complex multi-nutrient formula that makes it simple to be healthy. It’s packed full of greens, fruits, vegetables, herbs, vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, probiotics and much more! It’s a wholebody energy booster. If you’re struggling to meet your daily quota of veggies (7-9 ideally) try boosting your diet with a green powder. I often enjoy 1 scoop of the Good Green Stuff in a glass of water upon waking, or add it to my morning smoothie.
