3 weeks until I get married! I can't believe how fast time is flying! With such a big and exciting occasion on the horizon, I am making an extra effort with my diet and lifestyle to make sure I'm ready for the big day, as every girl wants to look and feel her best! It's important for me to be a healthy bride, which is why diet and my mindset play a huge role in preparation for the day.
Here are my top healthy tips for a bride-to-be:
1) Set yourself up a morning routine
This is something I do daily anyway (my morning routine), but with a wedding coming up it’s good to put more focus on your morning routine as it really sets the tone for the day. I wake up, take around 20 slow deep belly breathes before hopping out of bed to center myself and then I go and make myself a cleaning and alkalizing drink, 1 big glass of warm water with 2 tbsp raw apple cider vinegar. Then I head out the door to exercise. At the moment I’m going to the gym a little bit more and lifting more weights to tone my body, but I balance this out by alternating my days at the gym with a run or walk outside in nature. I find this grounds me a lot more than spending every morning at the gym indoors. My workouts are generally 40-45 minutes and currently I'm exercising 6 days a week. I’m also trying to fit in 1x yoga session into my week. Then I have a really wholesome healthy breakfast, recently it’s been a smoothie almost every morning (mon-fri), and in the weekend I enjoy eggs, avo on sourdough or gluten free toast. Then I make a large pot of green tea and get into my work day.
2) Eat VERY clean
This for me isn’t anything new or different, but I’m actually eating even cleaner than normal by making sure I don’t sneak in any additional treats (I still enjoy a couple of treats a week), but I’m avoiding all dairy, sugar, gluten and processed and packaged foods 90% of the time. I’m ensuring my meals are really balanced by having 1 good quality protein source, a healthy fat source, a wholegrain carbohydrate such as sweet potato, quinoa or brown rice and making sure at least ½ of my plate is full of non-starchy veggies!
3) Eat LOTS of green leafy vegetables
Leafy green veggies are loaded with vitamins and minerals that feed your skin and nourish your cells. I've been adding 1 large handful of leafy greens to my morning smoothie, as well as a big serving with lunch and dinner.
4) Cut out all processed foods
As mentions above I've personally removed all sugar, gluten and dairy from my diet (except for the odd ice cream treat in the weekend, just to stay sane). Sugar and gluten specifically will dull your shine, they will influence the bad bacteria in your gut to multiply leading to gut issues, and we don't want that! We want healthy bowls that are eliminating properly to ensure waste products are being removed by the body, not reabsorbed into the blood stream.
5) Drink plenty of water
Staying hydrated is key if you want healthy glowing skin and hair. Aim to drink 2 liters of filtered water daily. Add a splash of lemon for extra cleansing benefits.
6) I encourage less stress and more rest!
It’s important to schedule in rest as much as you can to help balance hormones. Try belly breathing, getting 8 hours rest, meditation, yoga, write a to do list, read a magazine/book, put your legs up against the wall. Do not put so much pressure on yourself! Put your focus on resting more and stressing less. Easier said than done I know, I'm making an extra effort at the moment to spend 15 minutes a day with my legs up against the wall to nourish and reset my nervous system. By nourishing your nervous system your body will be able to break down and digest food a lot more effectively, helping to prevent any unwanted weight gain.
7) Supplements and nutrients I'm focusing on
Every night I take a magnesium supplement to support my nervous system and to ensure I get a good nights sleep. I also take a probiotic to support my gut health. I'm making sure I consume lots of vitamin C rich foods (pineapple, lemon, leafy greens, broccoli) as vitamin C is important for skin collagen and helping you to get a healthy glow. I've also recently just started taking zinc in these final weeks before my wedding. Zinc is important for skin health, hormonal health and it keeps our immune system strong.
7) Embark on a cleanse!
I recently put out a 14-Day Restart Plan eBook. This is something I’ve already finished but I’m continuing to incorporate most of the plan into my daily lifestyle, and I will continue to do so until the big day! I’m a big believer in giving the body a break and restarting your main detoxifying organs to ensure you feel and look your best for any special occasion, especially an event as big as a wedding! It really focuses on cleansing and supporting your liver which is so vital for skin health. It’s a very gentle and easy way to cleanse with lots of delicious recipes so you won’t feel deprived! It also has supplement recommendations to help support your body even further.
