Every single day we are exposed to a barrage of harmful toxins, from the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, skin care products or medications we take. For this reason I find one of the best detoxification methods to be a daily one. This can be achieved by supporting our bodies natural detox systems, and minimizing our exposure to common toxins. This enhances our bodies immune and repair systems to work more effectively.
After years of suffering with poor digestion, a weakened immune system and hormonal imbalances I now understand the importance of detoxification in order to improve numerous health issues. Since studying and from personal experiences I have learnt different ways I am able to enhance this process. I now apply the below strategies into my daily lifestyle to improve my overall health and wellbeing.
So here are some simple strategies I wanted to share with you that you can incorporate into your everyday life that will help you regulate your body, and help with elimination of toxins and waste, increasing your energy, help improve digestion and potentially aid in weight loss.
Kick start your digestion with lemon water
Upon waking squeeze 1/2 lemon into warm water, even better add a pinch of cayenne pepper. This is very cleansing and alkalinizing.
Eat detoxifying foods
The liver and kidney serve as the body's filtration system, supporting these systems are important for overall health and cleansing. Foods that support these systems include leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, beetroot, carrots, parsley, cilantro, onions, garlic, lemon, turmeric, artichokes, green powders.
To help flush out toxins and eliminate waste that could be sitting in your bowels.
Drink cold-press fresh juice
Best drunk on an empty stomach as it allows your body to absorb the nutrients more easily and quickly. Green juice is best (with minimal to no fruit). One of my favs is organic celery, kale, parsley, lemon, ginger and turmeric.
Have a daily detoxifying tea
There are some amazing detox tea's on the market these days that offer different cleansing benefits, with the most common one being green tea. I also love the Liver Detox tea by Artemis, and drink this daily.
Move your body - daily
It's so crucial to get your lymphatic system going to flush out unwanted toxins. You don't have to do anything extreme or spend hours at a gym, a simple 30 minute walk around the block will do wonders for you. Try to move for 30 minutes daily, whatever form your heart desires.
Making you get a solid 7-9 hours of sleep each night will do wonders for your health! Improving your digestion, immunity, skin and so much more! It's a time for your body to restore and rejuvenate itself.
Scrape Your Tongue
Yes, this may sound odd and be something new to you but tongue scraping first thing in the morning is a fantastic way to detoxify. It cleans the tongue of accumulated bacteria and toxic debris from the night before. Give it a go, you might even get hooked once you see what you are removing!
Eat plenty of fiber
Soluble fiber helps to bind-up toxins in the gut and helps promote regularity. When you are constipated, toxins from the bowel can be reabsorbed into your system. Fruit and vegetables are a great source of soluble fiber.
Support your gut
By eating fermented foods or a take a probiotic. This will feed the good flora in your gut, strengthen your immune system, aid in digestion and help you to assimilate the nutrients from your food.
Try to avoid all processed and refined foods as these can be inflammatory. Also opt for organic whenever possible because organic foods are absent of things like chemicals and man-made synthetic ingredients.
